At the 5th BBinar on 13 June 2023 about 40 stakeholders came together to discuss what role the social investment approach to social welfare policies can and should play in supporting sustainable development in the Western Balkan and the Eastern Partnership countries.
The European Centre organised the 2nd BB Policy Review on ‘Gender Equality and Care for relatives’ on 05 and 06 June 2023. Around 40 representatives registered from ministries and public bodies from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, and Ukraine.
In this policy brief, the team explores challenges and barriers persons with disabilities face to full social inclusion and propose policy options to address them through investment in and better access to (vocational) education, public funding of personal assistance, and improved data collection for evidence-based policy making.
The team presents the results of the InCARE survey on attitudes, experiences and expectations on long-term care (LTC) for selected Balkan countries.
At the fourth BBinar on Informal Care and Gender Equality in the Western Balkans on 16 March 2023, ca 35 stakeholders from international organisations, ministries, civil society, NGOs, universities, and research institutes throughout the UNECE region came together to discuss progress and challenges of developing accessible, affordable, and high-quality care for older adults.
As part of an ongoing cooperation between the European Centre and the Central European University Vienna (CEU), four students from the Policy Lab support the Bridge Building work of the European Centre by preparing country profiles for Albania, Montenegro, Moldova and Georgia for the EESPN website.
The Armenian Ministry and the European Centre hosted an online policy review “Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for Social Protection Programmes”, in December 2022.
The Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection enabled the European Centre to extend the BB Peer Reviews and Trainings project in the Bridge Building countries until March 2024.
Across research institutions, gender imbalances still exist and are widely tolerated: few of the top positions in academia are occupied by women, and women still experience slow career progression. To tackle these issues, it is important to define concrete objectives and employ measures on an individual, cultural and structural level.
