Upcoming International Seminar: Assessing the French Tax-Benefit System in Italy
The European Centre is pleased to welcome Professor Carlo V. Fiorio of the University of Milan for an upcoming International Seminar on “Assessing the French Tax-Benefit System in Italy: A EUROMOD-Based ‘System Swap’.” Drawing on joint research with Francesco Figari, Sonia Marzadro and Giovanna Scarchilli, Professor Fiorio will explore how the French tax-benefit system would perform if applied to Italian households. Using EUROMOD, the study compares the redistributive effects of the French and Italian systems, showing how the stronger progressivity of Italian income taxation contrasts with the greater redistribution achieved by France through more generous cash transfers. The seminar will highlight the importance of examining taxes and transfers together when assessing the distributional impact of public policies and will be followed by an interactive discussion with the speaker.
